Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE)

Trusted by Patients From 35+ Countries

Who is an Eligible Candidate for TACE in India?

TACE is recommended for patients diagnosed with intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or certain liver metastases where surgical removal is not feasible. Ideal candidates typically have tumors confined to the liver, relatively preserved liver function, and no major vascular invasion or widespread disease. A multidisciplinary team evaluates imaging scans, tumor characteristics, and liver function before recommending this treatment.

Types of TACE Treatment

TACE can be performed using conventional chemoembolization, where chemotherapy drugs are combined with embolic materials, or Drug-Eluting Bead TACE (DEB-TACE), where specially designed beads slowly release chemotherapy directly into the tumor, providing controlled drug delivery.

Procedure of TACE

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with imaging guidance. A catheter is inserted into the hepatic artery and advanced toward the tumor. Chemotherapy drugs are delivered directly into the tumor, followed by embolic agents that block its blood supply. This dual approach helps in targeting cancer cells while limiting exposure to the rest of the body. The procedure may be repeated based on tumor response.

Best For:

Patients with liver cancer requiring targeted, non-surgical disease control.

Advantages of TACE:

TACE provides localized treatment with reduced systemic side effects, is minimally invasive, and can be repeated multiple times to manage tumor progression.
